Skills & Tools

Skills and tools are the two types of capabilities you give your agents.

  • Skills are reusable instruction sets — they teach an agent how to approach a specific type of task.
  • Tools are external integrations — they give an agent access to services like Gmail, Slack, or GitHub.

Together, skills and tools determine what an agent can do when executing a responsibility.

Skills

A skill is a named set of instructions that you can assign to any agent. Instead of writing the same instructions into every responsibility, you create a skill once and apply it wherever it’s needed.

For example, a “Professional Email Writing” skill might contain instructions about tone, formatting, and structure. Any agent with this skill will follow those guidelines when drafting emails.

Tools

Tools are the external services and integrations that agents can access. When you connect a service like Gmail or Slack in your Connections, it becomes available as a tool that agents can use.

Each tool can be assigned to individual responsibilities, and you can set approval gates to control when the agent needs human sign-off before using a tool.
